It is estimated that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer before the age of 85, so at the weekend Mrs Wicks held a pink-themed girls' night in.
Held in memory of Leonie Dwyer, a highly-respected member of the community who lost her battle to breast cancer, it was a cause very close to everyone's heart on the night.
"She would have been a big supporter of the cause," Mrs Wicks said.
"Everyone who came along on the night was so supportive too."
Many local businesses got behind the fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and so far $1200 has been raised.
Mrs Wicks said a special thank you to Keirle's, Home and Office, Taylor's Home Decor, Coles and the Soldiers Memorial Club.
It is not too late to donate money and you can contact Mrs Wicks at WACHS on 6845 3545.
Alternatively she suggests you hold your own fun event to raise money and get the word out there.
"I think people are becoming much more aware," she said.
"When the breast cancer van came to Wellington, they were very happy with the turnover.
"You have only got to look at things like Josh Lang's trivia night for the Leukaemia Foundationto know that more people are raising awareness about cancer," she said.
