"It was with intense pleasure that I looked from one aspect of literacy to another and then went on to see the same thing in all aspects of numeracy," principal Denis Anderson said.
"I was absolutely amazed. Our teachers are dedicated to the core and our children are delivering."
Much of the success in literacy can be attributed to programs like the Daily 5 and L3, and between the two programs the students are developing a love of reading that will be with them for life.
Every student from kindergarten to year 6 borrows a book to read in class as well as one or two to read at home each week.
Teachers are also encouraged to read eight or nine stories a day to the classes, and children have a cafe-style card for borrowing so that after every 10 books they read they are given a reward.
Librarians Jody Blackhall and Tina Legg along with assistant Kaylene Brien found that this was taking a toll on their books so the P&C stepped forward and donated $2500 worth of books to the school, broadening the range of reading material available and including popular authors like Pamela Allen and Margaret Wild.
"We have really seen a big lift in borrowing," Ms Blackhall said.
"Lots of kids are reading and enjoying it. They are even coming back and sourcing out their favourite authors.
"Teachers are noticing it as well, there is a real enjoyment of storytime."
Mr Anderson said that in the NAPLAN results there was an improvement right across the board, even among disengaged children.
"This is getting them immersed in text. They are getting great enjoyment out of it and fostering a love of reading."
The P&C also recently donated $2500 to the Wellington Public School Preschool for resources including new shade cloths, while another $2500 went towards beautification of the playground to make the learning environment more interesting for the children.
P&C president Stella-May Miller said they were alwayson the lookout for new members.
