If you find yourself wondering how to amuse the children this school holidays, we have Wednesday afternoons in both weeks covered. They will come home tired and happy, with some excellent craft to show and tales to tell. Join the librarian for Nightmare in the Library activity sessions, which include stories, active games and creativity as well as loads of fun. These activities focus on literacy, encouraging the imagination and helping children to enjoy the library. You can book as many children as you like into one or both of the sessions. Fiendish Fun is on Wednesday September 24 from 2pm to 3.30pm with scary tales, paper pumpkin head making, skeleton art and brain throwing. Monsterish Mummies is on the following Wednesday October 1 with more chilling stories, modern mummification and other batty crafts and games. These sessions are for children between the ages of 5 and 12 and bookings are essential so be sure to call the library on 6845 2156.
Celebrating Wellington's Aboriginal heritage
Wellington is lucky to have a rich Aboriginal heritage, and the library is a good place to start in learning about Aboriginal culture in general as well as the Wiradjuri nation and the history of the local area. On Friday 26 September a special event will be held in partnership with the wonderful people at Baiyai Indigenous Community Links and Wellington Council - the Baiyai Library Day. Come along from 10am to eat some great morning tea provided by local ladies and see Aboriginal performances by the young people of Wellington. It is also a good chance to have a look through the materials the library has on local heritage and Aboriginal culture. DVDs, CDs, books and language resources will be on show from both Wellington and Dubbo branches of Macquarie Regional Library and are free to borrow on a library card. This is a free event and there is no need to book, but make sure you come early so you don't miss out on morning tea. For further information call the library on 6845 2156 or chat to the person at the front desk.
Are you or people you know getting married?
Weddings can be expensive, but planning them doesn't have to be! The library has all you need to help you plan a wedding, with computers and free Wi-Fi to access the internet and idea-inspiring sites such as Pinterest as well as magazines, e-Magazines and specialty books. All of these are available with a library card although you will need to make sure you have a PIN set up to access the free online magazines. If you are unsure what a PIN is or whether you have one, it is easy to add one to your membership by calling the library on 6845 2156 or asking library staff.
