The ball, which sold out in less than two weeks, has been organised with a distinctly local flair, and will be held in the idyllic setting of the ‘Nyrang Homestead’ on the outskirts of Wellington.
Event organiser Danielle Littlewood said she was looking forward to seeing what the night would bring.
“For the first time this year we have introduced a Farm to Fork Challenge which will see five producers from within a 100 mile radius of Wellington compete to see who can serve the most popular dish on the night,” Ms Littlewood said.
“The winner will win a number of prizes including a holiday to Port Macquarie and a special one on one workshop with ‘Local is Lovely’ author Sophie Hansen.”
The dishes will be served as part of a seven course degustation menu with those vying for the title including Wellington Prime Lamb Association, Nanima Farm Lamb, Royalla Beef, Farmer Brown’s Eggs and Second Mouse Cheese Co.
“We are so happy with the response we have had from these producers and can’t wait to see what they come up with,” Ms Littlewood said.
“We would also like to thank the many local businesses and producers and community members who have supported this event. It has really been incredible.
“I’m sure this will continue during the whole SpringFest weekend with the myriad of other activities that have been planned including the markets, busking competition, lamb auction and arboretum celebrations.”
All profits raised from the ball and other activities held during the Wellington SpringFest weekend will go back to the SpringFest Community Grant Fund which is used to help local community groups carry out projects within the area.
