Cowboys' president Trent McQuillan, who has been in constant contact with the family, says the community is remaining positive about his progress.
He is still in a critical condition.
"He has had an infection which the doctors say they have been able to stabilise and he is still on life support with serious head injuries.
"The family are staying calm and positive and holding out hope he will be okay in the long run,'' Mr McQuillan said.
Mr Thompson was injured in the early hours of Friday morning when his utility crashed into a tree near Geurie.
"The whole community have been amazing and the family would like to thank them for their support,'' Mr McQuillan said.
Family members have posted pictures of Nathan and Scott playing in the weekend's match from the Wellington Times on the wall at the hospital to help raise his spirits.
"Nathan (his brother) taking out his jersey with Mason Humphries on Saturday was an inspiration and the family respect the love being given to him,'' he said.
With all this going on the players face a major semi-final at Caltex Park on Saturday in Dubbo.
"Chris's jersey will again hang in the dressing room to remind us there's more to life than football but also we can be inspired by his courage and if there's anyone who can fight through this it's Chris'' Mr McQuillan said.
Wellington's large band of supporters will be heading to Dubbo on Saturday for the semi-final and they made for a large percentage of the crowd on Saturday against Macquarie.
