The board of the Wellington Soldiers Club is pushing ahead with a $500,000 high-end restaurant complex on its ground floor.
The club says it is a vote of confidence in the future of Wellington.
Soldiers Club secretary-manager David French says the new complex on its main floor area will make the club's facilities one of the most modern in the central west.
"The improved food and beverage area will include two restaurants combining the Valley Bistro and bringing upstairs, the Flamingo Chinese Restaurant which will create a Western Asian dining experience. This will give our members and customers a better dining experience," Mr French said.
In hard and difficult times for the hospitality industry, Mr French described the move as 'one for the times'.
"The Wellington Soldiers Club is in a very sound financial position. The long -term picture is to save money for our members and generate a difference in the marketplace. We are in the process of integrating a new look coffee area in the top section of the new complex," he said.
"People are demanding a more modern and comfortable dining experience and this will bring a new and exciting dimension to the demands of those who want a high standard food delivery.
"Because we give back to the community as a not-for-profit organisation, the prices of food and beverage will be affordable. It will be a brand new look and feel, and many of our members will be excited by the development," Mr French said.
The construction company which will undertake the development will also employ local people to be part of the development and Mr French says he hopes to have the complex ready by Christmas of 2014.
