"Absolutely phenomenal," he said.
A night at Geurie to raise money for the late Dr Chris O'Brien's Lifehouse at Royal Prince Alfred in Sydney has raised more than $20,000.
"The Geurie showground was buzzing. There was a large crowd and I am overwhelmed with people here who supported the auction on a very cold night," he said.
His daughter Sarah came to Geurie for the event along with his brother Steven, both who said they were proud of Mr Dewar who had himself been a supporter of every other fundraiser in the area.
"He is just fantastic and the support he has from the community in such a little town is wonderful," he said standing alongside his partner Catherine and his daughter.
Dr O'Brien operated on Mr Dewar a decade ago and the Geurie man said he wanted to give back to a man who had achieved so much and who had passed away at such a young age.
The RPA surgeon died of complications with his malignant brain tumour in 2006.
His death generated a national outpouring of grief.
In his memory Mr Dewar will ride to remind people of his dedication to ordinary people.
Mr Dewar will ride in the Sunsuper Ride to Conquer Cancer on October 11 and 12.
"The most amazing part of the auction was five local blokes who bought the bike I am riding from Sydney to Hawkesbury and back from $4500. I stood there and thought how good are these blokes," Mr Dewar said.
He said he wanted to make sure cancer sufferers could easily access the help they needed, like he did 10 years ago.
