The Yard Dog Trials will be a battle for the Central West's championship.
Organiser Tim Woods said they were awarded the prestigious title at a meeting in Dubbo at the weekend.
"I am passionate about the event and Wellington, and it is fantastic news for us," he said.
"Regional events are held at the Mudgee Small Farm Field Days, Royal Bathurst, The Cooma Monaro region and Henty and this showcases Wellington's central location, our very good facilities and organisation."
The event will draw yard dog men and women from across the state with some of the best Kelpies and Border Collies on show for what now is expected to be a two-day event at the show.
"You never know, we could be in running for the NSW championships in the coming years. It is good for the local rural industry, local tourism and the show," Mr Woods said.
Wellington Show president Danielle Anderson said it would be a boost the 140th show.
"It is a major boost to the show and makes the Friday very special with the local horse events always a big attraction.
"This is a tribute to Tim Woods who is a highly-respected organiser and supporter of the event," Mrs Anderson said.
