Principal of Mumbil Public School Di Farley said it was a tradition the school had embraced for many years and which even saw the students perform in the grand concert two years ago.

"It was a great privilege," she said. "It is a great opportunity for the children to rehearse to a level of perfection, allowing kids to perform to an audience and develop confidence to get up on stage and get to that level of experience in what they do."

Ms Farley said that as the students prepared for their dance and movement, verse speaking and readers' theatre, they learnt how to develop their performance over many weeks and months.

"The eisteddfod gives meaning to what they are doing in the classroom, an idea of what they are working towards."

"It also helps them to engage with the syllabus."

Over the years Ms Farley has watched children who have run off stage come back the next year to lead the readers' theatre and she said it was an incredibly rewarding experience to see them grow in confidence.

"It makes me proud, often I have a tear in my eye when I see them do so well."

"The Wellington Eisteddfod Society is fantastic too, they are very supportive and have a section that recognises schools with small numbers and children of different ages."

Mumbil Public School will be performing a dance to I Was Only 19 for the Anzac centenary as well as the poem Jessica Jean by Ken Nesbit and an excerpt from Roald Dahl's The BFG.
