Dubbo last Thursday penned 4550 prime cattle with the quality of the yarding slipping in comparison to the previous week’s sale. Trade cattle rose 5 to 9 cents, young feeder cattle improved 8 cents, heavy steers lost 2 to 4 cents, heavy heifers remained firm, while all grades of cows gained 3 to 5 cents. Bulls improved considerably.
Quotations: calves 157 to 255, steer vealers 170 to 218, heifer vealers 129 to 211, heavy steers 115 to 207, bullocks 177 to 212, heavy heifers 105 to 190, light cows 70 to 100, medium cows 60 to 147, heavy cows 119 to 150, bulls 130 to 195.
Last Friday at Dubbo 2500 store cattle penned in a mixed quality yarding with all categories struggling to hold values. Steers were $30 to $40 cheaper, weaner steers sold from $205 to $540 to average $310 or 157 cents per kg, yearling steers ranged from $395 to $670 to average $503 or 154 cents per kg, heifer traded at a similar reduction in values with weaner heifers making $130 to $405 to average $251, yearling heifers realised $185 to $595 to average $349, PTIC cows sold from $410 to $720 for a pen of Angus cows, cows and calves ranged from $390 to $980 for 2 Limousin cows and calves, unjoined cows traded from $259 to $455.
40,000 lambs penned at Dubbo on Monday in a mixed quality yarding. Trade lambs were firm to $2 cheaper, trade weight Merino lambs were firm to $3 dearer, heavy lambs were firm, light weight lambs fell $2.
Quotations: medium young lamb $82 to $136, heavy young lamb $125 to $142, supermarket young lamb $140 to $144, light lamb $45 to $78, medium lamb $75 to $120, heavy lamb $99 to $133, supermarket lamb $117 to $166, export lamb $175 to $182.
There were some large consignments of Queensland sheep in a plainer quality yarding with 9150 being penned. Despite solid restocker support most grades fell $2 to $5.
Quotation: Light ewes $86 to $108, light wethers $52 to $63, medium wethers $76 to $95, rams $55 to $86.
The wool sales are in recess for three weeks.
