"They need more knowledge and support in a very difficult field. There is still a lack of knowledge in the community and also quite a lack of acceptance," he said.
"There is a level of autism which is not being acknowledged and it's obvious there is a struggle to cope emotionally.
"Mr Den-Kaat is both a clinician and international presenter and he provides diagnostic and therapeutic services along with education and training to agencies and service providers. It is a real coup for him to be in Wellington," local member of the International Carers Autism network Betty Ross said.
