"I have been to two SIDS deaths over the last 11 years and they are pretty emotional and traumatic," station officer Glen Flanagan said.
"Unfortunately there's not a lot you can do. A lot of it is reassurance for the family and providing comfort.
"You look to support the family."
Mr Flanagan said that in his line of work it could be difficult dealing with tragedy - particularly when it involved young children.
"We have a good support system here though. We can talk to support councillors and debrief with other paramedics," he said.
Mr Flanagan said while it was hard to find a cure for something without knowing the cause, he was optimistic about the future.
"There's also a lot of research happening and hopefully we will find a basic prevention," he said.
