High profile celebrities and visitors from throughout the state lit up the night skies together with a strong force of local people to support the Brain Ball.
For brain disease sufferer Georgina Cross and her small band of volunteers it culminated months of hard work and this night they were paid back in thousands by big hearts and minds.
It's understood the event raised more than $40,000 and, when world renowned neurosurgeon Dr Brindha Shivalingam stepped onto Wellington Showground, she had a powerful message.
"Events like tonight's Brain Ball help tell the whole story about brain cancer research." she said. "The effects on people, especially these days on young people is hard to walk away from. It is very profound."
The doctor believes recovering from brain disease is a battle she and many of her patients like Georgina Cross have taken together and the turn around in peoples lives is amazing.
