Taking action for homeless

A freezing Tuesday morning brought home the cold hard fact there are people homeless in Wellington.

Temperatures began at almost minus -4 yesterday and according to the Wellington Information and Neighbourhood Centre, St Vincent De Paul and the Salvation Army there are still many calls for help in our town for people who have nowhere to live or are forced to move from “lounge to lounge”.

On Friday there will be a free barbecue in the Swift Street Plaza as part of Homelessness Action Week, the event begins at midday and also at the Real Hope Church on Friday night from 6pm.

“The event here will be overnight to support our homeless till 8am on Saturday. Everybody is welcome and a free soup kitchen will be served supported by Carewest, Real Hope, Mission Australia and the PCYC,” Colin Russell, pastor at Real Hope Church told the Times.
