Numbers were down for the Rodney Cunynghame and Ian Manning-sponsored four ball aggregate stableford last Saturday.
One of the several father-and-son teams within the club, Kevin and John Athanasiou won the day with 74 points. The pair was well ahead of the runners up Ben McCarthy and Luke Brydon with 68. Due to the small field other ball competition winners were limited to four pairs. These were Peter Bryant and Bill Bright 67, Darren Whiteley and Gary Cusack 67, Geoff Walker and Lance Noakes 66, David French and Tim Parker 66.
Ron Stubberfield Toyota Terrific Tee Shot winners were Ben McCarthy, Luke Brydon, Ab Towney and John Athanasiou. Mac Harvey won the McCarthy-Staggs Tiling nearest the pin in two shots on the seventeenth hole. Clinton Ridley for A grade and Damien Bell for B grade took home the McDonald’s Biggest Whack awards. Gary McCarroll and Alan Ritchie with 50 points won the Brydon Encouragement award. Handicap changes are: Peter Bryant 28 to 27, Geoff Walker 17 to 16, Col Arnold 26 to 27, John Athanasiou 8 to 9, Bill Bright 16 to17, Gary Cusack 1 to 2 and Joe Mason 14 to 15.
Tomorrow’s event is an individual stableford and round two of the Barmen’s Trophy jointly sponsored by David East and Ashley Bullock.
The field is narrowing in the Cornish Trophy. Bill Bright and Peter Bryant continue their charge defeating Alan Ritchie and Gary McCarroll. In further results Gary Cusack and Darren Whiteley defeated Kevin Whale and Col Arnold, Luke Brydon and Ben McCarthy defeated Geoff Walker and Lance Noakes and Robert Ridley and David Naveau defeated Damien Bell and Trent Forrest. In the next round Bill Bright and Peter Bryant play Darren Whiteley and Gary Cusack, Luke Brydon and Ben McCarthy play Robert Ridley and David Naveau.
Next week is a double header. On Saturday the President v Captain teams play in a four ball best ball stableford. The Cowan brothers Ron and Anthony are kind sponsors for the day. On Sunday July 29 the first round of the Mixed Foursomes Championships are to be played. The event sponsored by D & J Rural and played over 18 holes will have trophies for A and B Grades both scratch and handicap.
