Only action will provide Wellington and its shire’s surrounds the impetus to move forward with the giant state owned Cobbora coal mine and the mayor has again said the townspeople did just that on Tuesday.
“It was fantastic the management of the mine was impressed with the roll up and how many of our young were keen to be involved,” Councillor Anne Jones said.
The Mayor and Member for Orange Andrew Gee talked with Cobbora mine Chief Executive Steve Ireland and all were impressed with the packed crowd who got there as the information day opened.
Mr Ireland said to many of the young people who approached him about the opportunities “Boy I wish I was 17 again with all this opportunity,’’ he told a young man who had come from Mudgee to discuss being a mechanic “What extraordinary potential you have not just at our mine but all of those in the area,” he said. Other information days were at held at Dunedoo on Wednesday and Dubbo yesterday, while the bigger Dubbo has the front running on many of the jobs Mr Ireland indicated Wellington’s youthful work force has incredible potential.
