Councillors up for auction to fight cancer

Wellington mayor Anne Jones is stirring the pot when it comes to helping in the fight to find a cure for cancer.

Mayor Jones will be hosting an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea this coming Wednesday, May 16, and is inviting everyone to join

in the fun at the Senior Citizens Centre from 10am to 12pm.

Not only will there be some delicious food and some great entertainment by local entertainer Barry Dickerson, the mayor along with three of her fellow councillors are also putting themselves up for auction.

“Councillor Augee has come forward and said he is willing to cook and serve a lunch or dinner for up to six people one weekend, while Cr Grant is happy to do any odd jobs around somebody’s house for an hour and a delicious lunch with Cr Drysdale is being auctioned,” Mayor Jones said.

“Along with that we also have an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea tea-towel signed by chef Pete Evans of My Kitchen Rules, some Biggest Morning Tea cups and an apron all to be auctioned.”

Donations will also be accepted throughout the morning, while a jelly bean guessing competition will also be used as another way to raise money for this important cause.

“Most people in our community will know someone who has been affected by cancer and this is a great way for people to spend some time together and enjoy some great food while helping to raise money for a more than worthy cause,” Cr Jones said.

Funds raised from Biggest Morning Tea events across Australia contribute to vital cancer research, prevention programs and support services.
