What a nice day greeted the 26 players who played in the “Three Ball Best Ball” v “Par” event on Wednesday, I think the weather is just teasing us before winter starts to set in this week.
The winning team was: Janelle Frappell, Wendy Slack-Smith and Ruth Lay with +8.
Runners-up were Denise Haesler, Marg Hollow and Marie Cornish with +6 followed by the “ooh aah team” of Alison Irwin, Bev Brien and Jenny Barton +5.
Due to prior commitments the winners cannot proceed to the finals day at Grenfell in August, so Denise’s team will be Wellington’s representatives.
Nearest the pins: A Grade - Gai Drew and B Grade - Ruth Lay
Raffle kindly donated by Jean Frappell and was won by President Sue.
Welcome back to Kathy “pre-winter tourist” - hope you and Graham thoroughly enjoyed your caravan trip.
Marilyn, Margie G for playing nine holes, was terrific to see you “humming around” the course in the carts and thank you to Ann for playing with them.
Wednesday is an 18-hole stableford with LJK and Carmel doing card duties.
Western District Tournament
The ladies would also like to wish those going south to Orange all the very best for the Western Districts Tournament.
The weather forecast is -4 to 11 for both tomorrow and Wednesday then a tad warmer Thursday, though I don’t think it will be as cold as what Molong got on the Wednesday when Wellington hosted last year’s event.
Those poor ladies never thawed out until well into the dinner/presentation function that night.
I think it was all that dancing to Elvis, Johnno and the local entertainment.
Results will be published next week - good golfing girls.
Men’s Open Sunday May 6
It was disappointing to see our numbers were way down but those men who played enjoyed a beaut day on the course and the fine tucker that was supplied.
These days cannot happen without the support of everyone making sure the players are well looked after while enjoying a day at Wellington Golf Club.
Many thanks to Sue, Denise and Marg H for doing the cards, Jean Frap and Lorraine Forrest the kitchen hands, the barbecue chefs, Ron Frap and Marto (will be entering My Kitchen Rules next intake) and Allan (the bar and behind the scenes work as well as his beaut sauces).
Potts and Cornish arrived when most of the work had been done due to prior commitments but soon found something to do.
Pennants
Friday saw our return trip to Trangie taking place.
We hope the girls that went did us proud again (the team was still being decided at time of print due to many players being unavailable).
