Local boxer set for big win

Boxer Joel Gallea is confident of a win this Saturday when he takes on Justin Kallu at the Civic Centre at 7pm.

Justin Kallu from Sydney will be one of his first opponents since turning professional.

He says that boxing in front of a home crowd makes a big difference when you have support.

He is currently looking for sparring buddies to train with and is running men’s and women’s fitness classes since opening up his gym Hard Knocks Boxing.

“I also want to train my own fighters,” he said.

Gallea initially became interested in boxing as a means of self-defence.

“When you grow up there’s going to be a time when you find yourself in a bad situation and I didn’t want to be on the receiving end,” he said.

He runs 50km throughout the week, trains twice a day and eats all of the right foods.

Since then it’s been his favourite sport because it’s so physical and he says there’s nothing tougher.

For locals Wayde Hinch, Scott Dorin and James Flemming it will be their first night fighting.
