It was a tough competition for the title of Wellington Showgirl this year.
Stacey Dorin, Esther Morley, Zoe Taylor, Michelle Jannis and Alysha Baxter each took part in the competition.
Runner up showgirl at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, Jessica Monteith was there to award Zoe Taylor with runner up and Alysha Baxter as Wellington Showgirl.
Co-ordinator Bev Hutchinson said she was impressed by each of the five girls and confident Miss Baxter would make an excellent representative for Wellington.
“The judges look at personal achievements, the girls’ local knowledge and also knowledge of issues that affect Wellington,” she said.
“All of the girls were excellent and showed a lot of confidence to put themselves out there in a situation that they hadn’t been in before.”
“Alysha had a confident nature, communication skills and a lot of practical life experience.”
Ms Hutchinson said the competition was a good way of getting to know the girls through their involvement in the community.
“Once they take part in a show, you learn a bit about them and I think it’s great that with last year’s showgirl Jess Hannelly, we now have a showgirl who is in the police force.”
