Mine to hold information evening

Cobbora Holding Company will have an information session at St Mary’s school hall tomorrow from 4pm to 8pm.

Specialist staff will be there to answer questions and Wellington Council general manager Michael Tolhurst is encouraging people to attend.

“The information session will allow residents to learn about what the project entails and any employment opportunities, while also providing any feedback they may have to the company,” Mr Tolhurst said. “Wellington Council has participated in a number of meetings with representatives from the Cobbora Holding Company, and we believe there will be plenty of fantastic opportunities for Wellington as a result of this project, whether it’s through employment, contract work or an increase in population to the local government area.”

The mine will supply 9.5 million tonnes of coal per year to NSW power stations.

During the construction period, it is expected to boost jobs by 350 and 550 once the mine is operational.

“We have been told that the company is looking to employ as many people from the local region as possible and will support them with on-the-job training, external training and apprenticeships,” Mr Tolhurst said. “This does not necessarily mean taking people currently employed in trades locally, but rather by providing opportunities for school leavers to stay locally.”
