Twenty-three players took to the course last Wednesday under threatening skies, some playing the 27 holes (the last nine holes in the rain that eventually came) and some settling for 18 holes.
The day comprised many events with Denise Haesler winning the 27-hole Sayonara Scratch with 131 shots.
The May Monthly Medallist was Min Burge with nett 73 and Min also took out the 18-hole winner’s voucher. Mighty effort as only her third full game back after recovering from illness.
Gai Drew, Heather Peiper, Bev Brien, Alison Irwin and Jocelyn O’Brien also shared in the spoils of the day in the Barton Cup and Myer Western Stores events.
Nearest the pins on the 8th went to Denise and Jocelyn.
The raffle was kindly donated by Margaret MacArthur and won by Cheryl (Gollan district’s newest wine tasting judge).
Wednesday’s event is a 3BBB v Par with most having organised their team, please contact president Sue or captain Lorraine if in need of a partner. Starters and cards - Min and Denise
Pennants
We were victorious over Trangie with our team being Gai Drew, Pauline Potts, Marg Hollow, Lorraine Konovas and Margaret MacArthur - what a mighty effort girls especially those who were very nervous to start as this was their first outing in pennants match play.
The return match is this coming Friday at Trangie, with the team being finalised and announced Wednesday. Hopefully most of you will be only too willing to backup, but this time the challenge will be on sand greens.
Golf around the district
Cumnock hosted some 48 players on Thursday April 26 with Denise, Lois Lang and Jean Frappell flying Wellington’s flag. Denise returned the winner on the day - well done and what a great roll-up for a small golf club.
Western Districts annual tournament is being held next week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday May 15, 16 and 17 in Orange with Ex-Services and Wentworth Clubs sharing the event. If you haven’t received your time sheet, please see Sue on Wednesday.
Family Fun Day, apologies for the incorrect date last article, it is penciled in for Sunday July 15 (last Sunday of school holidays).
Summer Twilight Competition
Allan’s very successful competition (men’s and women’s) presentation is being held this Friday May 11 commencing at 7pm.
Those that haven’t replied please do so ASAP and make sure you are financial or you might miss out on your shirt or tucker.
Wellington Men’s Open Tournament
A huge contingent of golfers supported our Men’s Open Day yesterday with lunch provided by the ladies.
John will have a wrap up in Friday’s paper.
Speaking of John, Denise and I would like to thank him for asking us to be part of his “Coachwell Australia” foursomes team, along with his brother Robert who played in the Dubbo Chamber of Commerce’s Golf Day on Friday April 27.
We had a lot of fun with Denise carrying us for seven of the first nine holes and John “planking” for a competition that was being conducted as part of the day on one of the holes - many teams did something similar.
This week’s cherrio calls are to Helen O’Brien and Noella Baker - hope you will both be back after your rest and recuperation, hitting the balls straight down the middle.
Was also nice to see Margie Grimmond calling in to have lunch, she assures us it won’t be long and she too will be back.
Working Bee
Thank you to all the fellows who got in and worked last Sunday and the Correctional Centre Service team who cleaned up the tree lopping’s during the week.
Your extra efforts leave Damien and Mitchell to look after and maintain the course and greens to what can only be described as just magnificent.
Thank you also to Bill and the other tractor volunteers who assist with trying to keep the grass down, remember winter will be here soon guys. Well done everyone.
