thrilling match-up

It was the narrowest of margins for the Wellington Cowboys in their 29-28 loss to CYMS in their thrilling Group 11 match-up.

Cowboys’ spokesperson Ray Fabar said that, while they had managed to score 12 unanswered points within the first 15 minutes of the game, it slipped away when they could not convert the try, costing them the win.

“It was a win for rugby league in Wellington though judging by the turnout, and they all behaved well,” he said.

He said he was impressed by the consistent performance of the team, especially Ben McGregor, Michael Gibson, Paul Black, Rian Humphries and Aidan Ryan who made his debut as centre.

“All the forwards took up the ball well, but at times we lacked support from all over so we will be working on that throughout the week,” Mr Fabar said.

Reserves won 28-26, showing a marked improvement since last week’s game against Cobar, and the Juniors lost 42-16.

Next week the Cowboys will travel to Forbes to play.
