Teacher Anne Edwards said they heard many stories about how different it was for the Elders when they were growing up in tougher times.
The students learnt about Aboriginal culture and what life in Wellington was like.
The Elders taught the class how to catch “craydabs” or yabbies, how school was very different then and also how some of the Elders made a bicycle out of scrap parts one time for fun. Sharing these stories was all part of a living in communities module for HSIE. The Elders meet every fortnight at Barnardos to take part in a lot of different activities in the community including scrapbooking and putting together a book for Barnardos.
