“I am really excited that we got some fantastic results,” principal of WHS Don Harvey said.
Mr Harvey said that this year 12 had been a very focused group full of high achievers.
Each year, Wellington High performs well in the state and Mr Harvey believes that a lot can be said of the mindset of students that is fostered at the school, not to mention the role that the teachers played.
“It comes down to their hard work as well as the dedication of the staff,” he said, adding that each year the staff proved themselves as excellent mentors to the students.
“Their success gives them a sense of ‘yes, I can do this’, it gives them a positive view of what can be achieved.”
Georgia Cosier was surprised to achieve a band 6 in all of her subjects and said that a lot of it had to do with being in the right place at the right time.
“Coming to this school made a massive difference,” she said.
“I really can’t say enough about the school,” she said, adding that with supportive teachers and small class sizes, it was the right environment to succeed.
She has now been offered a position with Sydney University where she will be able to keep her career options open doing a mix of graphic design and computer programming.
“I always enjoyed art and creative stuff so it will be a creative outlet and I can also do things like marketing and writing.”
It has been a successful year for Ashley Towney too, who has already been accepted into medicine at UNSW, topping all of her subjects except English which she came second in.
