The Elders have appointed the Marambai Nunmarra (Do Good) Committee to petition for the creation of a Wiradjuri Cultural Centre.
The community consultation meeting held by the Marambai Nunmarra Committee on November 18 at the Old Macquarie Theatre resolved that the cultural centre should be located on Wellington’s main street, that several sites for the cultural centre should be explored and that the cultural centre should provide long term employment and business opportunities of Aboriginal people in Wellington.
The Marambai Nunmarra Committee have meet with Wellington mayor Rod Buhr and general manager Michael Tollhurst several times over the last six months to discuss the initiative.
On the 18 December, Elder Joyce Williams and representatives of the Marambai Nunmarra Committee will present their vision for a Wiradjuri Cultural centre to Wellington Council.
