George Rodrom has been bull riding for two-and-a-half years now and he still can’t explain what keeps him coming back.
“I just started going to a few rodeos with a mate and wanted to have a go,” the 23 year-old Dubbo plant mechanic said. Needless to say, after his first go he was hooked and plans to keep pursuing the sport in his spare time.
“You just want to do it; you just want to succeed,” he said.
“I love the atmosphere and it takes a big heart - a lot of ticker.”
It is the third year since the Geurie Rodeo has started back up again and secretary of the committee Ros Press said that it is just getting bigger and better.
“A lot of people just loved the atmosphere now that we have a lot of events at night and Geurie is getting a reputation for running a good clean rodeo and that’s why we’re getting the competitors up and running.” On Saturday alone there were 306 competitors, followed by 106 yesterday with roughly 80 per cent of them travelling from far away. “One family were sick of the rain at the central coast and came when here they heard that it was dry,” Mrs Press said. “With the new facilities this will keep getting bigger and better and now we have extended to two days it won’t be long until they are both packed.”
