Mr Turnbull told ABC Television’s Insiders programme a key strategic review is continuing and he believes the bush will be better off under his government’s plan even the smaller communities.
“Interestingly, under our approach the bush will do much better,” he said.
“One of the big problems was towns under 1000 premises or communities under 1000 would not get better internet.
“Some of these towns don’t consider themselves as isolated hamlets and those country towns are ideal for the fibre to node especially because they have a Telstra exchange.” Mr Turnbull said the bush will get broadband sooner. It was a subject at the NSW Local Government conference where a number of councils recommended writing letters to the government urging them not to forget the bush.
Wellington Council sent a letter to Parkes MP Mark Coulton over broadband before the election urging him to lobby for a faster result for the local government area.
