Tania Teelow has the world at her feet.
The 46-year-old, two time World Champion, has again stunned the opposition to win the Australian water skiing title for a sixth time.
“I am very happy I am challenging myself,” she said.
“I am going for a shoulder reconstruction soon and decided to wait until after the Australian Championships to do that.”
Teelow, who lives in Wellington but has a pool business in Dubbo, has an extensive injury list.
She has shattered her body numerous times, but the woman of steel almost licks up the risk.
“Its all about the body maintenance,” she said.
“I have had a broken neck, shoulder breaks and a whole lot more.
“I race at the highest speed and the highest level more than 170kph. It’s an endurance sport and I risk my body to its peak.
“I am still skiing to keep the young one’s honest and that includes my daughter who finished fourth in the Championship.
“Sarah has the potential to be a world champion too. She lives and breathes the sport. She was bred to ski.”
Teelow’s husband, Chris, is her driver in events.
Their daughter, Sarah, is slowly threatening the champion who has won 20 different titles on the Australian National stage.
“To be top of your sports takes some guts,” Teelow said.
“You need to get out of your comfort zone.
“In business you need to think outside the square, just like being a sports person.
“There are parallels in my sport to business.”
As well as her driver, Teelow’s husband is also her business partner.
“Sometimes I go crook at him but all is forgotten in the moment,” she said. “He is pretty thick skinned.”
