The Geurie Goats Rugby Club are pleased to announce the appointment of Noel Phoebe as 2012 Coach.
“Noel has been an avid supporter of the Goats for many years and has been involved through his position as president of the Geurie Bowling Club, one of our major sponsors,” president Bill Dewar said.
“Noel will bring a wealth of rugby knowledge to our club due to
his previous coaching in Blowes Cup, Lang Shield and Women’s Rugby.
“He has a strong commitment to rugby and as we go into our 10th year in the ANFD competition, our club is seeking this coaching experience.
“The last few years for the Goats have honestly been a struggle.
“Our player numbers have dropped, in turn leading us not to be as competitive as we were when we joined the competition in 2003.”
Player commitment has also been a concern for the Geurie Club and without players committing to everything from player registration to training, the club will struggle again.
“Our club can not continue to survive and the longevity of the Goats will be at risk without commitment,” Mr Dewar said.
“I know we are not the only club in the competition that faces these issues but rugby is an integral part of small communities throughout NSW.”
Training for the 2012 season starts this Thursday at 6.30pm at the Sam Chandler Oval (Geurie Racecourse).
There will be a barbecue and drinks after the training session for all players to get to know each other and the new coach.
President Bill Dewar can be contacted on 0412 470 393 for any enquiries regarding the club.
