Two hard fought semi-finals were played out last Saturday in very humid conditions.
The match of the day was between Gary King and Barry Smith.
The first five ends was one-way traffic for Barry as he piled on seven points to two.
With the green running a touch heavier than normal, Barry got his line and length early while Gary was struggling to judge the speed and width of the green in the early part of the game.
For the next five ends both players shared the points with Barry still holding a five point lead after 10 ends leading 11 to six.
Gary, desperate to stem the tide, hit back over the next out-scoring six points to two to trail 12 to 13.
Barry regained his rhythm, striking back 10 points to six to once again lead by five after 25 ends, but Gary was not finished yet as he produced an almost flawless effort over the next five ends to take the lead 26 to 25 after 30 ends.
From that point on Gary was never headed as he went on to win 31 points to 27 to progress to the final.
The other semi-final had a lot of similarities to the first semi, finding the line and the speed of the green from the start, Mike shot out to a seven-nil lead after six ends before Nathan could counter with the next four ends to level the scores seven all after 10 ends.
By now Nathan had his eye in with some pinpoint bowling to jump out to a 16-8 lead and looked like careering away to a quick victory.
Mike was not done with yet, as he hit back, scoring six to two to trail 14 to 18 after 20 ends.
Then the class of Nathan showed, as each time Mike would draw close to the jack Nathan with his straight bowling would take Mike’s bowl out of play. Mike tried to play Nathan’s line but Nathan would counter every shot that was played.
In the end Nathan went on to win the match 31 to 17 and goes on to meet Gary King in the final.
Unfortunately the final will be delayed, as Nathan is involved in a district singles championship, which takes precedence over club championships.
The final will take place with a date to be set in the near future.
The final of the men’s fours was set down for last Sunday, but Mother Nature for the third time had other ideas and once again a date will be set in the near future.
This Saturday is the closing date for nominations of the men’s pairs championship, so if you have not put in your nomination yet do so by 6pm this Saturday, as the draw will be done at that time. The first round will start March 20.

Last Thursday was the return of the karaoke night in which about 20 people turned up to either listen or sing on the night.
A sausage sizzle was on sale for those who needed a snack to bide their hunger. It will be on again this week and every Thursday night with the sausage sizzle as well. So come along and enjoy a great night out with some friends.
With weather permitting Friday’s twilight bowls will be on, also the sausage sizzle will be available. Raffles will be run as well.
This Friday is also your last chance to get your names in for the Diggers’ Day triples tournament on thsi Sunday, so if you can’t get up to the club, just phone the club, someone will gladly take your name or names if you have a team of three players. If you don’t have a team ring anyway as there is always a bowler looking for other bowlers to join them.
