Narrow victory to Royal and Hollow in 4BBB

19 Mar, 2010 09:45 AM
When enough is just not enough sums up last Saturday’s 4BBB event at Wellington.

CCC Golf sponsored the day which attracted 55 starters in pristine weather and course conditions.

Norm Royal and Neil Hollow took home the day’s trophy with 46 points but only on a closely contested countback.

The runners-up team of Warren Williams and John Southwell thought they had it in the bag for just a little while.

Warren Williams felt the pressure of the wait too much and left for home before the final cards were put in and left the instructions “ring me if the results are good”.

The pair’s 46 points just wasn’t quite enough.

David Naveau and John Donnelly thought they were in there too but their 46 just wasn’t enough either.

Other ball competition winners were Gary Cusack and Peter Cornish 45, Matt Redfern and Clinton Ridley 45, Robert Ridley and Nathan Smith 45, Wayne Lang and David Burke 44, Geoff Walker and Stephen Whittaker 43, Vic Payne and Rod Irwin 43 and Ron Cowan and Rod McMahon 41.

Paul Hannelly scored the Ron Stubberfield Toyota Terrific Tee Shot on the third, Matt Gersbach eighth, Warren Williams 14th and Geoff Walker 16th.

Norm Royal’s two shots on the seventh earned him the Naveau Earthmoving Nearest the Pin in two.

John Donnelly won the McDonald’s Biggest Whack for A grade and Stephen Whittaker for B grade.

Maurie, what more could we say, Lay took out the Bradman for the second week in a row. As if that wasn’t enough, this time he found some unsuspecting company and dragged Bob Watts down with him.

It is said that in the ageing process it is the short-term memory that fades first.

That may be the only consolation for these two as 29 points is a score best forgotten as soon as possible.

Tomorrow’s event is an individual stableford handicap. The Wellington Soldiers’ Memorial Club are sponsors.

The finals of the Keirle’s Pharmacy Summer Competition continued last Saturday.

In division one, Printer’s Devils defeated Montefiores Maulers three and two and Goodsorts defeated Daffy’s Ducks.

In division two Puppies defeated Studs one up and Barmen defeated CCC Golf three up.

Tomorrow Westrac play Goodsorts and Printer’s Devils play Federal in division one while Dirt Diggers play Barmen and Stagg’s Tiling play Studs.

Mitchell Cusack won one up, Malcolm Payne lost four and three, Garth Watts lost four and three, David Naveau lost three and two, Lewis Payne played ABC Radio’s Western Plains breakfast announcer Andrew Dunkley and won three and two.

Lewis’ win was referred to in glowing terms by his opponent in Monday morning’s breakfast show on ABC 107.1.

Division two play Bathurst at Blayney on Sunday with a 9am start.

A wintaka (winners take all) is scheduled for the Saturday of the Easter weekend.

The event is a three- person ambrose to be played in groups of six with five drives each and one single figure marker per group.

The Federal Hotel Open in Conjunction with Cusack’s Butchery is scheduled for April 11.

The draw for the first round of the Kiss Trophy to be played on or before April 17 (with no exceptions) is Pat Everingham v Stephen McCarroll, John Hunt v Kevin Reid, Gary Cusack v Darb Richards, Clinton Ridley v Chris Woolfrey, David Wilson v Ben McCarthy, Lance Noakes v Ab Towney, Lewis Payne v Robert Ridley, Matt Redfern v Alan McMahon, Wayne Lang v Rod Irwin, James Armstrong v Darren Whiteley, Barry Jeffery v Mitchell Spradbrow, Harrison McMahon v Norm Royal, David Ryan v Bill Bright, Rod Pedron v Reid Armstrong, Paul West v Gary McCArroll, Robert Baker v Colin Sheridan, Neil Miller v Mitchell Cusack, Kurt Cusack v Ron Cowan, Lewis Stanley v Russell Gersbach, Peter Payne v Vic Payne, Joe Mason v Bob Watts, John Donelly v Tim Parker, James Cusack v Paul Hannelly, Rodney Cunynghame v Ashley Bullock, Garth Watts v Joseph Ryan, Luke Brydon v John Southwell, David Burke v Alan Ritchie, Neil Hollow v Kevin Whale, Ian Manning v Peter Cornish, David Naveau v Rod McMahon and John Gersbach v Malcolm Payne.
