Wellington golf course is a sight to be seen. Even non-players would be impressed with the way the course has come back boosted by pre-Christmas storms then the big wet.
Last Sunday’s scheduled event, the Wellington Mowers and Chainsaws sponsored par three championships, was abandoned for the second year in a row due to wet weather.
This event has been rescheduled for this Sunday.
There were no reports of a repeat of last year’s informal yet mammoth skins event that took place when the weather cleared.
Word came through that Santa was good to Warren Williams from Geurie who benefited by way of the gift of membership at Wellington Golf Club.
Warren has been seen busy this week getting cards in to gain a regular handicap.
Welcome Warren.
Lots of visitors have been playing over the Christmas break and many first-timers marvel at what a magnificent course it is.
Tomorrow’s event is an individual stroke combined with the Monthly Medal for January and round seven of the Keirle’s Pharmacy Summer Competition.
Sponsors and starters for the day are Printer’s Devils.
The draw for round seven is Maulers v Barmen, Bogeymen v Dirt Diggers, Westrac v Stagg’s Tiling, Old Fellows v Puppies, Printer’s Devils v Daffy’s Ducks, Good Sorts v Untouchables, Federal v CCC Golf and Council Workers v Studs.
This is a short report this week however the time is right to wish everyone a bleated happy Christmas (no paper last Friday) and every best wish for the new year.
Special wishes to former golfers, the homebound, sick and elderly who have expressed appreciation for the contents of this column which helps keep them up to date on some, not all, of the happenings at Wellington Golf Club.
