A lot of hard work from volunteers and members has gone into improving the Wellington Golf Club during the last six months.
With membership numbers increasing, upgrades throughout the club have had a positive effect on the club and its members.
“We have installed a wheelchair access ramp at
the entrance of the club,”
golf club captain David Naveau said.
“We are building eight more buggy sheds next to the old ones.
“They will be powered for
the electric buggies to be charged.”
With a grant they received, a new watering system has also been put in place.
“We have enhanced the water system with new control lines,” Naveau said.
“We dug a well deeper which improved the water supply and we also have an automatic watering system.
“We cleaned up a lot of trees with a cherry picker and cored the greens a few weeks ago with the help of volunteers and members.”
Lights have also been installed on the putting greens for the Friday night competition.
“We have had a massive increase in functions out here,” Naveau said.
“There is no hire fee and accommodation is available adjacent to the course for social golfers.
“We encourage people to have a social hit too.”
With a junior competition
on Sunday mornings in the works, ladies’ day is Wednesdays and organised games are held on Tuesday and Thursdays.
“The championships are coming up at the end of the month for the A, B and C grades,” Naveau said.
