Cusack wins A grade medal with nett 66

A full program at Wellington Golf Club extended over both Saturday and Sunday last weekend. Saturday was day one of the annual club championships and the November Monthly Medal while Sunday heralded day two of the four-day championships.

A score of nett 66 was shared by A and B grade players for the monthly medal.

Gary Cusack won A grade and Bill Bright B grade. Paul West was A grade runner-up with 67 and Ashley Bullock B grade runner-up with 71.

Paul Hannelly won the Ron Stubberfield Toyota Terrific Tee Shot on hole three, Malcolm Payne eight, Paul Hannelly again 14 and Norm Royal a mere 84cm from the pin on 16.

Colin Sheridan won the Naveau Earthmoving nearest the pin in two shots on the 12th. Paul West took home the Big Mac voucher for the unmeasured McDonald’s Biggest Whack for A grade and Joe Mason with a 233m drive for B grade.

Barry Jeffery won the Bradman, Fletcher Ivey the raffle and David Burke the schooner. There were 63 starters including David Naveau’s guest Ian Shepherdson from Narromine.

Ball competition winners for Saturday were Ben McCarthy 67, Matt Reid 68, Colin Sheridan 69, John Gersbach 69, Mitchell Cusack 70, Malcolm Payne 70, Luke Brydon 70, Kurt Cusack 71, Mal Scott 71, David Naveau 71, Gary Holding 71, Robert Baker 71, John Donnelly 72, Col Arnold 72, Peter Cornish 72, Bob Watts 72, Rod Irwin 72, Mac Harvey 72 and Russell Gersbach 72.

Sunday saw 58 starters line up for day two of the championships again sponsored by the golf club.

The event was an 18-hole stroke handicap and there was high drama as Neil Hollow was disqualified for omitting to sign his card. This oversight cost him the win for the day allowing Rod McMahon’s nett 70 to be the winning score.

David Ryan also had a net 70 earning him runner-up on a countback.

Other ball competition winners were Jim Armstrong 70, Bill Bright 70, Mal Scott 70, John Donnelly 71, John Gersbach 71, Wayne Lang 71, James Cusack 71, Lance Noakes 71, Vic Payne 71, Paul West 72, Robert Baker 72, Kevin Reid 72, Gary Holding 72, Matt Reid 72, Mitchell Cusack 72, Peter Payne 73, Ashley Bullock 73, Darb Richards 73 and Tim Parker 73.

Ron Stubberfield Toyota Terrific Tee Shots were won by Russell Gersbach on the third, Vic Payne eighth, Ben McCarthy 14th and John Gersbach 16th.

Luke Brydon won the McDonald’s Biggest Whack for A grade and David Burke for B grade. Matt Reid won the David Naveau Earthmoving nearest the pin in two. Rod Irwin won the Bradman award for Sunday with a 91 nett.

Tomorrow and Sunday rounds three and four of the club championships will be played with Saturday also Medal of Medals day.

The Keirle’s Pharmacy Summer Competition begins on Saturday November 14.
