Close finish in stableford event

Norm Royal continued his fine form last Saturday. After just missing out on a win by countback the week before, he teamed up with John Donnelly to snap victory on countback from Michael Keirle and Pat Everingham with 49 points in a 4BBB stableford.

The event, which was sponsored by the Dirt Diggers, attracted 51 starters.

Other ball competition winners were Fletcher Ivey and Steve Whittaker, Darren Whiteley and Peter Cornish, A Ellis and Lance Noakes all with 48, Luke Brydon and Ben McCarthy, Neil Miller and Robert Baker and Rod Irwin and Bill Bright 46 and David Wilson and Maurie Lay 45.

Gary Holding won the Ron Stubberfield Terrific Tee Shot on hole three, Malcolm Payne eight, Ben McCarthy 14 and Robert Baker 16. Robert Baker also collected the McDonald’s Biggest Whack for A grade with a 267-metre drive and Clint Ridley with a similar distance for B grade.

Gary Holding won the Naveau Earthmoving nearest the pin in two shots on hole 17.

The Steves, McCarroll and Hannelly, won the Bradman with 36 points.

Brian Kiss won the raffle and Marg Hollow the schooner with all trusting that she got to enjoy it and not give it away.

There was one visitor for the day, A Ellis from Neslon Bay.

Handicap changes are Bill Bright 15 to 14, Fletcher Ivey 13 to 12, Ian Manning 11 to 10 and Darren Whiteley 6 to 5.

Last Saturday was also the third round of the Keirle’s Pharmacy Summer Competition.

Untouchables defeated Maulers 2 up, Daffy’s Ducks defeated CCC Golf 4 up, Old Fellows defeated Federal 1 up, Westrac defeated Council Workers 3 up, Barmen defeated Dirt Diggers 3 up, Goodsorts defeated Printer’s Devils 1 up, Unknowns defeated Puppies 1 up and Stagg’s Tiling defeated Bogeymen 2 up.

The top eight on the leader board are Daffy’s Ducks 15.7, Barmen 15.5, Goodsorts 11.7, Untouchables 11.7, Dirt Diggers 11.6, Stagg’s Tiling 11.5 and Westrac 11.5.

Tomorrow’s draw is Maulers versus Daffy’s Ducks, Bogeymen versus Westrac, Dirt Diggers versus Old Fellows, Council Workers versus Printer’s Devils, Federal versus Goodsorts, Puppies versus Untouchables, Stagg’s Tiling versus CCC Golf and Barmen versus Unknowns.

Tomorrow is also the Monthly Medal and round one of the Frank and Jeune Gersbach Trophy. Sponsors and starters for the day are Council Workers.
