Last Saturday Brad Pugh from Dubbo Amaroo smashed 123 against Geurie with 100 in boundaries with 12 sixes and seven fours.
The match was switched to 11am at Geurie to allow both sides to have a great day at the races with the weather finally being kind to both events. Dubbo batted first and scored 5 for 208 off their 20 overs as the talented Dubbo opening batsman fired up and handed out plenty of “Pepe Le Pugh” to the Geurie bowling attack with one unlucky bowler recording 0 for 51 off two overs conceeding six sixes.
The Geurie mob replied with 45 all out with Brendan Gadsby claiming 3 for 3 with the ball for the Amaroo and we hope the Geurie mob had a better day at the races than they did on the paddock at Tom Culkin Oval.
In other matches Western Riot ventured out to Stuart Town and came home with the points replying to Stuart Town’s 79 with 6 for 89. Scott Preston was run out for 19 for the home side and Ian Davis with 28 and Jeff Hutchison with 26 led the way on a day where very few boundaries were scored.
Tall spin bowler “Two Metre” Peter McQuillan took 3 for 5 and Ian Davis and Tom McInnes snared two Stuart Town wickets each.
Farmers Dougall Campbell made a welcome return to form a few weeks out from the semi-finals with 63 in Farmers total of 5 for 163 against Juniors.
The usual array of suspects in Chad Taylor, Angus Maurice, Will Martel and Jason Brien all made reasonable starts to contribute to the total.
Juniors version of Chris Gayle in import Chris Peters from Collarenebri finally struck some form with 2 for 17 to please his contract manager and he will be one of the mainstays of Wellington’s bowling attack in Sunday’s Brewery Shield match against Narromine at Narromine.
Mitchell Cusack with 26 and Spencer Brien with 22 led the way for Juniors in their reply of 87 with Dean Gould taking the new ball for the hay stackers and wrecked the Juniors innings in the opening over finishing with 2 for 6.
The draw committee make Nostradamus and Indigo Jones look like amateurs with tomorrow’s round an all concrete affair again with Riot v Geurie at Geurie at 2 pm, Juniors v Amaroo at Pioneer 2 at 1pm and Farmers trek to Stuart Town for a 3pm clash with the locals that will make the publican happy with another Ironbark home game.
Next week it is back to headquarters for all matches with Pioneer Park a sea of pink for McGrath Pink Stumps Day.
The day is gearing up to be a great event and the trivia quiz at the bowling club afterwards will be a highlight of the cricket season with a dedicated band of ladies putting in a huge amount of preparation for the day.
There will be a light barbecue on at the bowling club again after cricket tomorrow with the usual gold coin donation but next week will see a wider range of food and prices for Pink Stumps Day as the trivia buffs battle it out for champion status at the inaugural Wellington Pink Stumps quiz.
The Pink Panther is having great difficulty locating a new Pink Panther suit at the $2 shops and St Vinnies so if anyone spots a pie gut size panther outfit please contact the bowling club at barbecue o’clock on Saturday.
