Wellington court days changing

12 Mar, 2010 09:42 AM
The Wellington Local Court circuit has been changed for the first time in nine years.

Remaining at the usual 10am starting time, the days of which people will have to attend court will be different.

Court deputy registrar Linda Cusack explained the sometimes confusing change of court days.

“At the moment, court is held the Thursday after every second and fourth Monday of the month,” she said.

“Instead, court list day will be the first Friday after the first Monday of the month, and the Friday after the third Monday.

“Then court will sit for that whole week.”

It has been the same way since 2001, and now will change for an indefinite period.

“Hearings will be from Monday to Thursday the week after the third Monday of the month,” Mrs Cusack said.

“The court circuit changes every now and then. Terry Lucas will no longer be the magistrate; instead Ron Maiden will be starting in Wellington in May.”

The changes will come into action on April 9.

“It is important that people are aware of the changes,” Mrs Cusack said.

“You could be arrested if you don’t turn up. Or, matters may be dealt with in you absence.”

The courthouse has been operating since 1932.
