Construction for the Wellington gas-fired power station has been delayed due to the economic crisis.
Wellington Council held a meeting with ERM Power’s NSW director Andy Pittlik on Monday, discussing the gas line and construction issues.
“There will be a delay because of the economic impact,” Mr Pittlik said.
“We won’t start construction this year like we were going to.
“We are working as hard as we can to get things moving along.”
Council’s general manager Allan Dive said overall the meeting was successful.
“We discussed the proposed gas line route from Young to Wellington and talked about the general overview of the project and about the gas line,” he said.
“The next application for the gas line through the State Government is another stage in the process.
“They are hoping the station will be operating in 2012,” Mr Dive added.
The proposed route will be 220km long made of steel piping, with 15 mega pascals of pressure.
The $700 million station was approved in March this year and will be located adjacent to the Transgrid station.
The project has been a controversial subject since the idea first came to light in December 2006.
