It is a very golden time for Sister Marjorie Fitzgerald who is this year celebrating her 50th anniversary as a nun with the Catholic Church.
Sister Marjorie was born in Wellington and became a nun at the age of 20 after having a yearning to help people.
“I had a desire to help people,” Sister Marjorie said.
“I taught in the Bathurst Diocese for 30 years and then in 1990 I started working at the school (St Mary’s) and the parish.”
Sister Marjorie currently lives quietly with her dog Sasha, however, in the past she has travelled throughout Australia and New Zealand and has connections all around the world.
“I celebrated in Bathurst in March and at Wellington on May 23,” Sister Marjorie said.
“We had a special mass then went to the Anglican hall afterwards.
“I am going to continue to celebrate my jubilee year.
“I want to say thank you to St Mary’s staff and students for their kindness and for helping me celebrate.”
