Local mechanic Daniel Blackhall is living his dream after taking up an opportunity to run his own business.
The 32-year-old has been in the industry for nearly 16 years, starting his career at well-known business Noel’s Automotive Centre.
Mr Blackhall said Thursday was his first day in his new business.
“I’ve moved from Noel’s to my own shop here at Sam and Joel’s (on the Mitchell Highway),” he said.
“I’ve always wanted to start my own business.”
When he was 17, Daniel began working as a mechanic on weekends and during school holidays.
“I got the job through work experience,” he said.
“Getting my own shop has been on the cards for a while now.
“If I couldn’t get a shop I always said I would do something else.”
The opportunity to branch out came about recently and was one Mr Blackhall did not want to let slip by.
“The shop came up and I went for it,” he said.
“I’ll stick by myself for a while and see how it goes before I go putting on any apprentices.
“I’ll see what eventuates from this and see how everything travels.”
Being a member of the Motor Traders Association (MTA), Mr Blackhall is able to fix all types of cars, including new vehicles.
“I can service new cars and customers don’t lose their factory warranty,” he said.
“I’m also doing tyres and am selling brand new ones at competitive prices.
“I also do rego’s (registrations) and servicing new and used cars as well as general maintenance.”
Fuel discounts will also be introduced through the mechanic shop.
