New gym has strong, young following

29 Oct, 2008 02:23 PM
There’s a new gym in town but you must be under five to attend.

The playground at PCYC is attracting a strong clientele of little ones with mums in tow and has a brand new co-ordinator.

“They love it,” mum Trish Scott said of her two daughters.

Meanwhile, gym coach Chrystal Bancroft has taken the reins and is loving every minute.

As an experienced gym coach, Mrs Bancroft wants to encourage active learning in a safe place.

“It’s the very basics of gym,” she said.

“And it’s in a fun, safe, multi-sensory environment.”

Mrs Bancroft said the children learn about teamwork through games, as well as a range of skills through play.

Equipment includes mats, slide, a tunnel, skipping ropes and floor puzzles.

During the one-hour session described as ‘kindy gym’ there is a warm-up, play time and relaxation element for the kids. And while they are busy under the watchful supervision of Mrs Bancroft and her helpers Cheryl Greenham and Sam Burns, the mothers and carers can have a cuppa knowing that their children are well looked after.

Eventually, Mrs Bancroft hopes to expand the classes to include junior gymnastics and would like to hold a fundraiser to purchase bars and trampolines.

Playground is held every Tuesday morning from 10am to 11am. Cost is $3.

The floor activities are a great playground for kids and a time for mums to catch up.
