Police have been successful in arresting four thieves who are accused of breaking into the St Columba’s Catholic School at Yeoval in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Students were forced to stay home from school yesterday after it was discovered the facility had been completely ransacked by the offenders, who allegedly stole electrical equipment such as computers as well as a number of other items including craft supplies.
The break in was discovered by police after they were called to Yeoval in relation to a suspicious vehicle driving around. Upon entering the township police located the car and pulled it over.
A 17-year-old male and 49-year-old female from the Parkes area were spoken to before the car was searched and a number of items believed to be stolen property was found.
The officers then received further information that the Catholic school had been
broken into and when they attended the facility
found it had been substantially ransacked and damaged.
The man and woman were taken to Wellington Police Station where they were charged.
Orana detectives also travelled to the village yesterday morning where, thanks to help from the public, another two males believed to be involved in the incident were located.
“A 14-year-old male and 30-year-old male were arrested on the property on the
outskirts of Yeoval and
were subsequently transported to Wellington Police Station,” Wellington Police acting senior sergeant Buhr said.
“They have since been interviewed and charged with a number of offences.”
St Columba’s School principal Glen Brown first received news of the break-in about 6am. He said it was a feeling of disbelief and frustration upon seeing the damage.
“They took things like tea towels and craft supplies,” he said.
“It’s just a total inconvenience.
“We will be lucky if we can get it cleaned up today,” he said yesterday morning.
